Recently, India Women concluded their first test match against England in Mumbai. India Women created history by winning the match by 347 runs. Earlier, the record was held by Sri Lanka’s 309-run win over Pakistan in Colombo in 1998. This is also India’s maiden victory against England on home soil.

Deepti Sharma – Star of The Match

The star of the match was Deepti Sharma, who took 9 wickets in the match and scored valuable 67 runs in 113 balls. Sharma’s balling figure was 5/7 in the first innings, whereas in the second innings, Deepti registered a balling figure of 4/32, narrowly missing the record of Jhulan Goswami’s 10-wicket haul in a match.

India Women haven’t lost a test match since March 2006. The women have played a total of 7 test matches since 2006 out of which they have won 4 matches and tied on 3 occasions. When Mithali Raj took as a test captain for the India Women’s team in 2005, she led the Indian squad till 2021. Since 2021 Harmanpreet Kaur has been responsible for leading the India Women squad to new heights. This great run of test victory will help team India in an upcoming test match against Australia in a home game. The Indian team looks solid and united more than ever.

We believe India Women should play more test cricket for more exposure. 7 matches in 17 years is surely a low number. In comparison to men’s test match schedule. there’s a need to increase the number of matches for women as well, but let’s leave that decision to the people responsible for BCCI.
