IPL 2023: Chris Jordan Replaces Injured Jofra Archer

Jofra Archer’s injury forced Mumbai Indians (MI) to pick Chris Jordan as his replacement for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. The elbow issue that has plagued the 28-year-old England pacer has prevented him from playing in the IPL 2022 as well.

In the absence of pacer spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who is sidelined for the entirety of the 2023 season due to a back injury, Archer was slated to lead the MI attack for Rohit Sharma’s team. Jordan has previously played for clubs like RCB and Chennai Super Kings. He was a member of the England side that won the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia last year.

Archer, who has endured a string of ailments in recent years, participated in just five games this year, taking two wickets. He last played last week against the Chennai Super Kings. The severity of Archer’s ailment is unclear in the IPL announcement, but it is likely his right elbow, which has been bothering him since 2021. Last year, Archer missed the entire IPL. He started in MI’s opening game of the season but then missed four straight games.

Additionally, reports claimed that the lanky pacer had traveled to Belgium in the middle of the competition to get minor surgery. He rejoined the team but was once again excluded due to the “illness” mentioned by Captain Rohit Sharma.

Mumbai Indians signed Jordan in just ?2 crores to join. It’s interesting that he wasn’t purchased at the auction that took place in December of last year. Jordan might end up being a crucial addition to the MI team, which is having trouble with their death bowling without Jasprit Bumrah. Mumbai Indians and their supporters will be hoping that pacer can bring some of that expertise to the IPL given that he has experience bowling at the end of games in leagues and tournaments all over the world and was a significant member of England’s T20 World Cup squad. Jordan previously played for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, and Chennai Super Kings. This will be his fifth franchise.

Jordan has taken 27 wickets in 28 games so far in the Indian Premier League, with a best of 4/11. The England Cricket Board (ECB) has also acknowledged that Archer has had difficulty recovering from an elbow injury. Over the past few years, Archer has experienced a number of ailments. He was only able to participate in 5 of MI’s 10 games this season, and his economy rate was 9.5. Only two wickets were taken by Archer in IPL 2023.

Jordan his replacement, debuted in the IPL in 2016. He has formerly played for the Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The 34 year old Jordan has played 87 T20 Internationals for England and has taken 96 wickets, joined the MI camp at the end of April. On Monday, Jordan batted in the cages for almost an hour.
